When the weather turns cold, but you still want the comfort, benefits, and sheer fun of barefoot-inspired, natural movement, the Mika is for you.

Featuring:

  • Water-repellant canvas
  • Cozy flannel lining and stylish poly "wool look" collar
  • A heat-reflecting warming insole
  • A wide toe box — lets your toes spread, splay and move naturally
  • Low-to-the-ground design for balance and agility
  • Non-elevated, “zero-drop” heel
  • The flexible sole lets your feet bend and move the way they’re supposed to
  • High-traction FeelTrue® rubber sole with dual-chevron tread for traction, backed by our 5,000 mile sole warranty
  • Lightweight construction for “barely there” comfort, only 34 grams for a W7
  • Vegan friendly materials
  • Quick and easy lacing with hooks at the top!

The Mikas have extremely flexible soles , especially as a cold weather boot. You can really feel the ground surface as you move, so that your brain can coordinate with your body on how to navigate different terrains.

Reflective material on the bottom of the removable insole/insert reflects your body heat back toward your feet , and reflects cold back down to the ground. The canvas uppers soften a little over time, which means they are flexible overall and move however you move.

They are cozy and warm , and the treated canvas will keep you dry in snow and light rain . If you are standing around in water for a long time, your feet will eventually get wet as they are not fully waterproof. The treatment does wear off over time, so you can apply a store bought water repelling treatment up to once a month in the winter or just as needed.

They come up to mid calf on most of our customers, and the tongue is gusseted but not all the way up. The volume of space they allow for your calf is different depending on the boot size, but you can customize it with the lacing. Customers with very wide calves may wish to try the Xero Denver, a similar model designed for men that is ankle high, though no one has returned a pair of Mikas for being restrictive on the calf yet.

If you have never worn minimal shoes before,  you will notice a big difference between your normal shoes and the Xero Mika. You will have the option to move more of your feet in a wider variety of movements, you will get more feedback about your environment through the sole, they give you the opportunity to get used to zero drop design, and they have a wide toebox that lets you spread out your toes. Because they have a slightly cushier sole than the most barefoot feeling of summer models, they are a good winter transition shoe for those who don't have any special concerns with their feet. They will be fairly forgiving as you learn a barefoot style gait.

The traction is not lugged but it is very grippy. Great for snow, cold and dry surfaces, and we've gotten good feedback about them on wet surfaces like public transit during winter as well. They are not slip proof on ice, so please use a slip-on ice tread if you are concerned about falling on ice.

As a fashionable cold weather boot, they look really cute with tall, cozy socks, leggings or yoga pants, dresses or skirts with tights, skinny jeans, and other styles that aren't baggy around the lower leg. Customers report that they can wear one or two layers such as over the knee, thick socks over leggings in their Mikas comfortably for extra warmth on longer outings.

Sizing Notes:

The Xero Mika is only available in women's sizing.

The Mika runs small.  We suggest you go up half a size for best fit.

The Mika suits those with high and medium volume feet (and high arches) quite well. Those with low volume feet may wish to wear them with thicker socks or snug lacing for the most secure fit, though it comes down to preference.
