Ahinsa uses unisex European sizing. The Ahinsa Shuma xWide has a wide fit (even wider than most barefoot shoes).

Fit Notes:

• The CF+ material has a little give like leather.
• The footprint shape is beanlike: they have a taper and a curve to them.
• The Shuma xWide suits average to high volume feet best.
• They are widest at the metatarsal/ball of the foot, but still very generous in the toebox. The width is one of our widest available (a size 40 has 11cm internal width, for example).
• The fit is adjustable with laces but mostly around the ankle. You can wear them with or without the optional insole for another fit and feel adjustment.
• The toebox shape is quite generous so most toe shapes find these comfortable.
• Width in the forefoot area: skews toward big toe
• The collar sits comfortably above the ankle bone

The Shuma xWide has great flexibility due to the segmented sole, more than most trail boots even in the barefoot world. The Vibram sole has decent ground feel as the lugs have a lot of surface area and the base of the sole is quite thin. It is not a squishy sole so you will get feedback from the ground.

We recommend these to trekkers who are looking to connect their movement to their environment with a fairly barefoot feeling boot that allows for a wide range of natural movement.

If you are new to barefoot and looking to transition, try shorter hikes and build your feet’s endurance and mobility gradually while you develop a gentle gait with awareness for your body and your terrain. Transitioning can take a few months at minimum.
