According to Altra's website, the Escalante Racer 2 is expected to fit most true to size in relation to other Altra models. Based on customer reviews, choosing your true size should still leave you with some extra room at the toe, making the fit snug but not tight or uncomfortable.

The Escalante Racer 2 has the lowest stack of all the Altra models, with a 22 mm stack height. In relation to other running shoe models we carry, the Escalante Racer 2 has very minimal ground feel and is more suitable for customers who are just getting into barefoot running. The extra cushioning allows the foot to feel more supported and comfortable, especially for urban running.

According to customer reviews, the Escalante Racer 2 has a stiffer sole compared to the original Escalante Racer. For runners looking for a more fluid motion while running, this might be a problem, but it is expected that it will loosen up over time.

Altra recommends: Spray, Wait, and Scrub!

“Clean your shoes as soon as they are exposed to dirt. In our opinion, the best way to clean our shoes is to simply spray them with a mild detergent, let them sit for a few hours, and then scrub them with a scrub brush in the sink or shower. Once you are done cleaning, stick a fan on them or stuff them with towels. Because the midsole foam tends to break down if soaked in water for prolonged periods of time, we don’t recommend machine washing or dryer.”
