Lems Outlander Waterproof Boot
- Price
- $289
The Outlander from Lems is a 100% waterproof gusseted hiking boot with a grippy, lugged tread. They are now constructed to be zero drop, but the optional insoles have a 3.5mm drop. This can make it a great option for transitioning.
Stay above the slush in the Outlander! Plus, use them throughout the year for longer hikes when a little support can help do some of the work so you can stay out and about longer.
While this boot itself is zero drop, as of June 2024 the optional insoles have a small drop (1.5mm for the Minimal Cork insole or 3.5mm for Adventure Poly insole). You can see their breakdown of which models have which insoles here.
- Lems suggests that the insoles compress over time, so you may not notice a drop after the shoes are broken in.
- If you prefer not to use an insole that has a drop, you can wear these without any insoles, or try a zero drop insole such as our Alpaca Insoles.

Ground feel
The Gobi Boot has high groundfeel and flexibility.
Compared to similar conventional shoes, these are more flexible once the leather breaks in due to the flexible soles and they allow you to feel the terrain you are on and get sensory feedback through the soles of your feet. For a boot they feel very barefoot, though some of our athletic models have slightly more groundfeel and flexibility.
If you are new to barefoot or minimal shoes and used to a lot of cushioning and support, take it slow and easy with brief walks to get used to zero drop and sensory feedback from the ground.
Care
You can brush off dirt and wipe these clean. Vivobarefoot recommends leather balsam products to maintain and condition these boots. Keep leather away from heat sources.
