Xero's Z-Trek is a super light-weight minimal sports sandal: the sole is only 5mm thick!
It offers great protection, a design that encourages natural movement, a secure fit, a zero-drop sole, and a familiar easy-to-fit style.
The Z refers to the strap design which is ultra comfortable, holds your foot securely for natural movement, and can be adjusted easily to suit almost and shape and size of foot. Customers who dislike having material between their toes will love the Z-Trek.
The Z-Trek has an extremely flexible sole that bends and moves with your foot for complete range of motion and incredible ground feel. Their thin stack height and sturdy, uncushioned sole material ensures that you get maximum ground feel and a barefoot experience, all with the protection of a sandal.
The Z-Trek is great for barefoot running and aquatic adventures. Most of our customers who buy them end up wearing them all summer for everyday activities, because it just feels great to have that foot freedom. The simple design allows you to wear them with athletic, casual, or even summer picnic attire. They dry fast, and if you get them dirty, just hand wash with gentle soap and air dry!
Not to mention they're perfect for travelling; they'll barely take up any room in your carry-on, and they're so light you won't have to worry about weight allowances.

New To Minimal?
We recommend a shoe or sandal that has a thicker minimal sole for your transition to minimal, but the Z-Trek has a very thin and barefoot feeling sole. The reason we make this recommendation is so that your feet and movement patterns will have time to adjust and relearn natural movement before experiencing more feedback from the ground. A barefoot feeling minimal sandal or shoe will be less forgiving on unnaturally hard surfaces such as pavement.
If you are more experienced with minimal footwear or tend to spend most of your time barefoot, these could be the perfect sandal for you. Folks looking for as much ground feel as possible will really like the Xero Z-Trek. Connect with the surfaces you're moving on to Feel The World!
Sizing and Fit Notes
Most of our customers take their usual size in the Z-Trek, so we describe them as fitting true to size. Since they only come in whole sizes (no half sizes), we recommend rounding up if you're between sizes to avoid toes falling off the edges.
If you are a man with narrower feet, you may prefer the fit of the women's sizing, and if you are a woman with wider feet you may prefer the fit of the men's sizing. The men's sizing also comes in options that are longer than the longest women's size. We're happy to help you translate between the gendered sizing systems. For this model, a men's 8 would be of similar length to a woman's 9.
The Z-Trek is designed to be customizable. If you have extra length in front of your toes but it's otherwise a good fit, you can trim them with sharp kitchen scissors and use sandpaper to buff out the edges. Make the smallest viable adjustment with each cut so that you don't take too much off! We cannot accept returns of items that have been permanently modified.
Sizing
Xero sandals tend to fit true to size, although some will take a size down from their Xero shoe or boot size as there’s no need for extra length in a sandal like there would be in a shoe.
Xero makes US men’s and women’s sizing. In their sandals, a men’s 8 will be the same length as a women’s 9, and so on. However, the men’s sizes are wider throughout (forefoot, midfoot, and heel), and sometimes have wider straps than women’s sizing.
Fit Notes:

- Xero sandals tend to suit folks with average to high volume feet best, though the adjustability sometimes works for low volume feet too

Ground feel
With a slightly thinner sole than the Z-Trail EV but using the same cushiony materials, these will be soft and flexible while giving you tons of ground feel! Great for all summer long, but be careful if you’re just starting out with minimal shoes, these will ask a lot from your feet.
If you want a little bit more cushion, try the Z-Trail EV, or if you want a little less, try the Aqua Cloud.
Care
You can just hose them down, or wipe with a damp cloth and gentle soap. They’ll dry quickly.
Best uses
For summer walks and hikes, and for experienced barefoot runners you’ll like these too! With a casual athletic style, you probably won’t be wearing these to a wedding, but you might find yourself reaching for them on almost every other occasion– they’re just so comfy! Like a second skin, they are so light and flexible you’ll forget you have them on.
