Sizing
Most customers take a size down from their usual European size. Be Lenka provides the following measurements for their sizing:
This chart indicates the measurements of the footbed, but you won't need a lot of extra room for a sandal.
The Iris is available in European sizes designed for women’s feet, specifically for slender feet. Women with wider feet may prefer a different brand of dressy sandals.
Fit Notes
- As with all leather shoes, we expect the Iris to stretch a little with wear has slender width, but accommodates average width as well due to its adjustability
- Suits average to low volume feet best ideal for those who want more room on the big toe side
- Best suits slope and mountain forefoot shapes.
- Those with square or plateau forefoot shapes may want to go a size up from what the sizing chart recommends as the have a strong slope at the outer edge of the forefoot on the footbed, or look at a different brand
- Bean shaped footprint shape skews toward the big toe, rather than a triangle shape or a rectangle shape
- The ankle and heel strap may sit too low if you have “tall ankles”
Ground Feel
The Iris has a highly flexible thin sole that will give you lots of ground feel.
From your first wear, you’ll notice that the Iris allows your feet to bend, twist, and shape itself over barriers. There is no sense of being cushioned, so you get the maximum amount of sensory feedback about your environment and how you navigate it.
If you are new to barefoot shoes and want to start with the Iris, start slowly and research exercises, stretches, gait mechanics, and alignment to help with the adjustment period. You can also switch between barefoot shoes and cushioned supportive shoes so that your feet and body have a rest and recovery period each day. Body awareness and a gradual approach are key!
If you are already wearing minimal shoes and are looking for a very barefoot feeling dressy sandal to attend special events and elevate your outfits for daily life, the Iris is a great choice!
Care
The Iris is made of leather with a rubber sole, so wipe any dirt away with a damp cloth. Allow to dry completely.
Leather should be stored out of direct sunlight and away from sources of heat.
If the leather straps or footbed are feeling less than soft and supple, they may need a treatment of leather conditioner. Ask your local shoe repair what products would be most appropriate.
